摘要：Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), collectively referred to as AVR, has emerged to be effective entertainment, communication, development, simulation, education and training tools. While AVR has traditionally been used in high-end research areas in industrial design, simulation, and manufacturing, it has extended its reach to many domains, including engineering, military, video games and entertainment, live events, retail and real estate, education, and healthcare. Large high tech companies, including Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Samsung, and Sony, have adopted it in recent years.
In this talk, we will discuss our proposal to embark on AVR research and development in data acquisition, modeling and simulation, 3D representation of virtual objects, artificial intelligence and data mining to support the healthcare, safety and security domains. The proposal will focus on maturing the technology derived from the research, through design and engineering, using innovative and novel techniques with the objective of successful delivery of the technologies to the industries and businesses. We seek collaborations with various parties to participate in this proposal.

Dr Hock Soon SEAH is Fellow of the Singapore Academy of Engineering. He is a professor at the School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He directs the Singapore National Research Foundation funded Multi-plAtform Game Innovation Centre (MAGIC) to champion efforts in research, development, education, commercialization and impact of digital animation and games. He holds a First Class Honor Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, a Master degree in Computing Science, and a PhD in Computer Graphics.
His current research interests are in geometric data modeling, image sequence analysis, automatic in-between frame generation from hand-drawn sketches, virtual and augmented reality, and computer game and design. Seah is inventor and principal investigator of the CACANi (Computer Assisted Cel Animation) software system, which has nine patents granted.
